Overall, my stay at the Bannatyne Hotel Durham was a mixed experience. I appreciated the clean and comfortable rooms, but I found the facilities quite basic and noticed some dated decor. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, which was definitely a highlight. Unfortunately, some aspects, like the lack of included breakfast and the noticeable smell in the bathroom, left something to be desired.

Rooms
6.0
My room was clean and of good size, but I encountered a strong sulfur smell in the bathroom. The mattress could have been in better condition as well. I did appreciate the power shower, which was great for my back.
Service
9.0
The staff were lovely and very accommodating. Amanda stood out for her really good helpfulness and warm demeanor, making my stay much more enjoyable.
Location
6.0
The hotel is conveniently located for visiting family in the area, though it's a bit outside the city center. Traffic noise didn't bother me, but the area felt a bit drab and uninviting.
Dining
5.0
Breakfast was served next door, and while it had a good variety, I found the quality lacking. The food seemed overcooked and not fresh, which was disappointing.
Facilities
5.0
While there are leisure facilities available at the neighboring health club, the lack of amenities directly in the hotel was disappointing. Also, it wasn't clear during booking that I would have to pay to access the leisure center.

6.2/10

I had a mixed experience at Bannatyne Hotel Durham. While the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, the hotel itself felt quite budget, with several issues in the room. The location was convenient, being close to the A1M, but the noise from the motorway was disturbing at times, especially at night.

Rooms
6.0
My room was clean, but it was tired and needed updating. There were issues like a toilet that didn't flush well and towels with holes. I appreciated the large bed, but I had problems with the bed sheet being too small, which left me feeling a bit uncomfortable overnight.
Service
8.0
The staff were a real highlight for me. They were welcoming and dealt with my check-in efficiently, especially after a long journey. Colin, in particular, stood out as exceptionally helpful.
Location
7.0
The hotel is conveniently located near the A1M and is close to Durham city center. However, the noise from the motorway and late-night guests made it difficult to get a restful night's sleep at times.
Dining
5.0
Breakfast was served at the health club nearby, but I wouldn't say it was the best choice. There are better options around for breakfast, so I would recommend exploring those instead.
Facilities
7.0
The hotel is attached to a health spa, which could be a nice perk. However, I didn't use the facilities during my stay. Parking was ample, which was a plus.

7.2/10

My stay at Bannatyne Hotel Durham was a mixed experience. While I found the bed incredibly comfortable, the service left much to be desired, especially when I faced issues with my room. The location was decent, being a short drive to the city center, and the dining options were fairly good but not without flaws.

Rooms
6.0
The room was modern but had some cleaning issues; I noticed stains on the floor. Even though it was equipped with nice toiletries, the shower head wasn't properly attached.
Service
5.0
Service varied; while some staff were friendly and accommodating, others seemed indifferent. I struggled to get assistance regarding the TV and Wi-Fi, which was disappointing.
Location
7.0
The hotel is conveniently located just a short taxi ride away from the city center, making it easy for me to explore Durham. There are also local bus options available, which is a plus.
Dining
6.0
Dining options were reasonably priced, but I had mixed feelings about breakfast, as it was located across the car park in the leisure center. The full English was nice, but the fried elements could have been better.
Facilities
7.0
The hotel does have a gym and spa facilities, which I didn't utilize as I was out exploring. However, they did offer good value for what appeared to be ample amenities.

5.4/10

I found Bannatyne Hotel to be well-kept with courteous staff, but there were some drawbacks. The room was massive and the bed incredibly comfortable, making my stay enjoyable. However, the breakfast options were underwhelming, and I had to walk to a different building for meals, which was a bit inconvenient.

Rooms
6.0
The room was spacious, and the bed was huge and very comfortable. However, there were some maintenance issues that could be improved, such as noise insulation and cleanliness. My room felt dated with some noticeable marks on the ceiling.
Service
8.0
The staff were friendly and really helpful. They responded swiftly to my requests, which made the experience much smoother. There was a slight mix-up with the room cleaning, but it was quickly resolved.
Location
6.0
The hotel is conveniently located just off the A1M, making it easy to access. However, it is a bit remote from central Durham, so you might need a car or prepare for some walking to get to local amenities.
Dining
5.0
Breakfast was served in the spa building, which was disappointing on the second day. Most items, like the muffins and tea cakes, seemed pre-packaged and reheated rather than freshly prepared. I expected more variety for a hotel at this price point.
Facilities
7.0
The spa and gym facilities were clean and well-maintained, though I was disappointed by the cost of using the spa amenities, like swimsuits, which seemed excessive. I couldn't take full advantage of the facilities during my stay.

I had a great value stay at Bannatyne Hotel Durham, with clean and spacious rooms. although there were a few drawbacks that could be improved. The helpful staff made checking in early a breeze, and the location was convenient for access to the city center. However, I faced issues with the shower and room temperature that affected my comfort during the night.

Rooms
8.0
My room was clean and spacious, but had a few issues like a shower that didn't close well and a slow drain. plus, the heating made it quite uncomfortable at night. The bed was also two singles pushed together, which I didn't prefer.
Service
8.0
The staff were friendly and really accommodating, allowing me to check in early and assisting with any requests. they were generally quite helpful, although there were some hiccups with housekeeping during my stay.
Location
7.0
The location was perfect for me, just a few minutes off the A1(M) and close to a large retail park. However, it's a bit far from the city center, which made travel a little less convenient.
Dining
6.0
I dined at the health club, which had varied service. some meals were fine, while others were disappointingly slow. It would be nice to have a dedicated area for hotel guests to speed up service.
Facilities
7.0
The gym and pool are available for no extra cost as I booked directly. but I found the gym a little dated and could use some new equipment. The facilities didn't feel entirely fresh, though they did their job.
